If you’re like me, you love the nostalgic styling of Instagram photos. But until recently you could only get them on your phone. Now you can add very similar effects to your own pictures, saved on your computer or hard drive, with Photoshop. Lacking Photoshop? You can download a free 30 day trial of Photoshop from Adobe.
If you don’t know, Photoshop actions are a time saving technique to record steps done in editing a picture. And they are just plain awesome!
Creative professional Daniel Box created a set of Instagram-like actions that can be downloaded for free here on his blog. There are currently 12 effects for adding some old school charm to your photos, plus several other handy actions for adding different borders and cropping photos.
To use the actions yourself: download and unzip the actions file, double-click to open it in Photoshop, select an action to apply to your photo from the Actions panel and hit the “Play selection” button.
